Sarah Catherine Rundle was born December 20, 1848
at Lebnon Lake, New York where she grew to
womanhood. On July 4, 1861 she was united in
marriage to William Ernst at Port Jarvis and for a
few years they made their home near that place.

In 1864 they moved to Tonica, Illinois where they
lived for thirteen years. In 1877 they moved their
family to Iowa and settled on a farm northeast of
Oelwein. In 1898 they moved to the late home
where they spent the last twenty-three of the sixty
years of their married life.

After a prolonged illness Mrs. Ernst passed away
October 20, 1921. She had united with the
Primitive Baptist Church in early womanhood and
died true to that faith. She was the mother of six
children four of whom preceded her in death. She
leaves to mourn her husband and two daughters,
Mrs. J. C. LaTour of Des Moines and Mrs. A. B.
Spicer of this city.
