Lucretia Sprague, second daughter of William and
Miranda Sprague, was born in a farm home two
miles east of this city, October 30, 1860.

In this home she lived, loved and worked until
she became the wife of Charles Dugan in November
1876. With her husband she went to her new
home two miles farther east where she lived 43
years. In this home were born eight, children, two
of whom, Archie and Melva died in childhood. The
others are Mrs. Ivan Seal, Mrs. Owen Hempseed,
Ross Dugan of this city, W. A. Dugan of Mitchell,
S. D., Mrs. John Blethen of New Hampton, Mrs. James
Barret of West Union, Mrs. Ed Williams of Detroit,
Mich. These children were privileged to care for
their mother during her last days.

Mr. Dugan died after a lingering illness,
March 17, 1904. The mother kept the family home
and care for the children.

In May 1907 she became the wife of Walter
Powers. She came with her husband to this city
two years ago, laying down the heavier cares of
the farm.

After ten weeks on a bed of pain, surrounded
by those whom love held dear just as the last
rays of the dying sun lit hill and valley she went
peacefully to sleep October 19.

She is survived by her husband, seven children,
ten grandchildren, one great grandson, one sister,
Mrs. Lucy Howard, two brothers, Samuel B. and
Sidney C. Sprague.

Mrs. Powers was a member of the Baptist Church
where she held great faith.
