Charles W. Schlumbohm 1859-1940

Mr. Charles W. Schlumbohm was born at Brooklyn,
New York, December 28, 1859, as the youngest
child in a family of four sons and two daughters.
His parents were John Frederick Schlumbohm and
Marie nee Meinken.

During his childhood he moved with his parents
and brothers and sisters to a farm in Damascus
Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania. Here he
attended the public school near his home.

When only eleven years old he was left an
orphan through the early death of both of his
parents. After their death he went to live with his
older sister, Mrs. Chris Beckman, New York City.

In 1896 Mr. Schlumbohm was united in marriage
with Miss Freda Lang. The couple made their
home for the next thirty-five years at Tyler Hill,
Pennsylvania where they conducted a summer
resort, known as the Tyler Hill House.

The late Mrs. Schlumbohm preceded her husband
in death on January 14, 1934.

Since her death Mr. Schlumbohm was cared for
by his nieces and nephews for the first three years
at his home in Pennsylvania and for the last three
years at Aurora and Independence, Iowa.

It pleased his Heavenly Father to relieve him of
his earthly sufferings at 4:30 pm on Wednesday,
August 14, 1940.

Mr. Schlumbohm leaves no immediate relatives,
but passing is mourned by a large number of
nephews and nieces, other relatives and many
friends.

Brief funeral services were conducted by Rev.
H. C. Schiffler, pastor of the Lutheran Church, at
the Hintz Funeral Home on Friday afternoon
August 16. There after the body was shipped to
Pennsylvania where the deceased will be laid to
rest beside his beloved wife.
