J. P. Marrah, a well known citizen of Oelwein, passed
away at his residence in this city Sunday morning at
7:55 following an illness of heart disease. The last
services will be held from the Sacred Heart church
Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock.

Mr. Marrah was born at Owasso, Michigan in 1871
and was a conductor on the C.G.W. railway running on
the northern division for a number of years. Several
years ago he lost a leg in an accident at Boyd. Since
that time he has been employed as depot master in
this city. About a year ago he became ill with what was
finally diagnosed as heart trouble by the physicians
at Rochester, Minnesota. He improved in health and
resumed his service with the Great Western for a time
but a short time ago was again forced to relinquish the
position in consequence of rapidly failing health.

Last week he told some of his friends that he was
feeling much better and that he expected soon to take
up his work at the station again, but he failed rapidly
the last of the week and fell into the last sleep Sunday
morning.

He was member of the Knights of Columbus who
will attend the last services in a body. He was a faith-
ful member of the Catholic church and stood high in
the estimation of many friends.

Sixteen years ago he was united in marriage to Miss
Lizzie Graff, a daughter of Nic Graff and beside the
wife and mother there are three children, Paul, Alveta
and Ruth left to mourn his loss. Sympathy is expressed
to the bereaved family.
