LAPORTE CITY - Vena L.
Howland, 93, of Colonial Manor Nursing
Home in LaPorte City, formerly of
Hazleton and Oelwein, died Tuesday,
Jan. 5, at Colonial Manor.
Funeral services
will be 2 p.m.,
Friday, Jan. 8, at
Brant-Kems-Jamison
Funeral Home in
Oelwein with the
Rev. Bonnie
Buckner officiating.
Burial will be in
the Cass Township
Cemetery in
Strawberry Point.
Visitation will be
from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the
funeral home.
She is survived by one son, Francis
(Bud), Raiford, Fla.; several grandchildren
and great-grandchildren; one
sister, Neva Kelland, Clinton, Mo.; and
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Dale, Nov. 15,
1980; and three brothers, Harry, Earl
and Walter.
She was born Sept. 21,1899, in Volga,
the daughter of Albert Samuel and
Margaret Elizabeth Lowe Boleyn. She
married Dale Max Howland, Oct 30
1926, in Volga.
She was a school teacher and also
worked at Woolworth's in Oelwein for
about 13 years, retiring in 1964. She
formerly lived in Meadowwood
Apartments in Hazleton and had been a
resident of Colonial Manor in LaPorte
City since July of 1991.
She was a resident of Hazleton since
1952, moving there from Oelwein.
She was a former member of the
Volga United Methodist Church, Order
of the Eastern Star and Royal
Neighbors.
