N. Howell, who had been living for
a number of years on the west end of
Charles street, died Monday morning
at the county poor farm. He had
been partially insane for two or three
years and about three months ago became
so bad that his wife could not
get along with him, so it was thought
best to take him to the insane department
at the poor farm for care and
treatment. Since that time he has
gradually failed in health until death
came to his relief. He was well advanced
in years. The remains were
brought to Oelwein Monday evening
and the funeral exercises were held
at the family residence Tuesday, being
conducted by Rev. H. T. Clark.
The remains were interred in the
cemetery here. Deceased was born
in the state of New York on February
22, 1821, and was a few days over 73
years of age at the time of death. Be
was married on November 20,1833, to
Amanda Smith. Three children, one
daughter and two sons were born to
them. He removed to Iowa from
Wisconsin in 1869 and had been a
resident of Oelwein for the past twenty
years.
