Leo Francis Pearl 1873 - 1942

Leo Francis Pearl, 68, was born
July 6, 1873, at Ardenburg, Holland,
the son of Paul and Anna Pearl. At
the age of 23, in 1896, he came to
America and settled in Attica, Ind.
In 1910 he moved to Fargo, N. D.,
where he lived for 14 years until
Sept. 23, 1923, when he came to Oran
where he lived until his death.
In 1897 he was married to Leona
Sumivaert at Attica, Ind. To this
union nine children were born, two
of which died in infancy and a son,
Emil, 33, died May 20, 1938. He is
survived by his wife, Leona, two
sons, J. Herman at home, Charles of
Oelwein, Elizabeth, Mrs. John Welsh,
Florence, Mrs. Charlie Ford of Fairbank,
Sofia, Mrs., James Garvey of
Oelwein, Paulina, Mrs. Harry Casselman
of Northome, Minn.; one brother
John Pearl of LaFayette, Ind., two
sisters, Mrs. Hortense Rooze at
Montmerinci, Ind,, and Mrs. Charles
Van Dame at Boswell, Ind.
Mr. Pearl enjoyed good health until
he became ill some five months ago.
He was a patient at the Mercy hospital
at Oelwein for six weeks and
submitted to a stomach operation on
Feb. 3 from which he recovered satisfactorily
until he took a relapse
on Apr. 3. He was stricken with a
heart attack from which he became
gradually weaker. He died at 7
o'clock on Apr. 26.
Mr. Pearl was a member, of the
Knights of Columbus for 30 years
and member of the Oelwein counsel
of Knights of Columbus came to the
home and said the Rosary Tuesday
evening. Funeral was held at the
Immaculate Conception church in
Fairbank at 9:30 Thursday. Father
Torpey had charge-of-the- requiem
high mass. Pallbearers were Harold
Burke D. Dwyer; Frank Youngblut:
Burle' Chase, Frank Kane and John
Klutsch.
