Funeral services for Vesta Opperman were held Monday, March 14 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawkeye, Iowa with Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Interment was in the West Union, Iowa Cemetery and serving as casket bearers were Dean Opperman, Bradley Opperman, Mike Potter, Carl Opperman, John Opperman, and Bill Opperman. Becker- Milnes Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Vesta Julia, daughter of Mark and Effie Bresee, was born November 29, 1903 in France. She was raised in the Algona, Iowa area and was united in marriage with Otto Opperman at Algona on November 23, 1921. The couple farmed for seven years in the Strawberry Point, Iowa area before moving to Algona and then to Cylinder, Iowa where they farmed for eight years. They returned to the Strawberry Point area for a brief period before purchasing their present farm near Hawkeye, Iowa in 1942. Otto's death occurred September 5, 1969 and Vesta continued living at the rural Hawkeye home until her death occurred there on Thursday morning, March 10, 1988. She was 84 years old.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Dennis Paige and one brother, George Bresee.

Survivors include three sons, George and Junior, both of rural Hawkeye and Wayne, Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Irene, Mrs. Gerald Paige, Manchester, Iowa, and twins, Lena, Mrs. Maurice Jones, Waterloo, Iowa, and Wilma Cosselman, Louisville, Kentucky; 28 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and one sister, Idella Langes, Hopkington, Iowa.
