John William Strawn, the son of Nellie ReCoy Strawn
and William A. Strawn, was born April 13, 1882 in
Scott township, Fayette county and passed away at the
home of his daughter Tuesday, September 20 at the
age of 78 years.
He attended the rural school of the Scott township
area. On December 23, 1903 he was united in
marriage to Etta B. Miller. He spent his entire life
farming near Arlington until March 1958 when he
retired and moved to a home in Maynard.

Good health was enjoyed during his lifetime except
for the last few months when he became ill and
entered Mercy Hospital at Oelwein August 15, 1960
and upon his release August 31, he resided at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Lincoln, Strawberry
Point, until his death.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father,
two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Frank
(Nellie) Lincoln of Strawberry Point; a niece Mrs. Fay
(Della) Cue of Waterloo; four brothers; Clair and Alfred,
Salem, Oregon; Ross of Menomonie, Wisconsin and
Vern, St. Charles, Illinois; one sister, Mrs. Susie Oakes
Hazleton; also grandchildren and great grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
