Funeral services for Doyle C. Bennett were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hawkeye, Iowa Monday September 30, 1985. Military rites were provided by Arnold Rogers Post 312 of the American Legion of Hawkeye. Becker-Milnes Funeral Service, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.Doyle passed away September 26, 1985 at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Burial was in the Elgin, Iowa Cemetery.

Doyle Clifton Bennett, son of Harold and Irene (Rhinehardt) Bennett was born December 13, 1919 near Elgin in Fayette County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended schools in Clermont and Elgin areas.

December 18, 1940 he married Audrey Ames at the Clermont Lutheran Church. Doyle enlisted in the U.S. Army in July of 1942 and served as Private with the First Infantry Division in the European Theater of Operations. Following the war, Doyle and his wife made their home in Oelwein, Iowa and he was employed as a truck driver. For the past 13 years, he and his wife have owned and operated Bennett's Tap in Hawkeye.

His current church membership was with Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. He is also a lifetime member of the Oelwein VFW. Since moving to Hawkeye he has become a member of Arnold Rogers Post #312 of the American Legion, the Hawkeye Community Club, and the Hawkeye Businessmen's Association.

In addition to his wife, Audrey of Hawkeye, he is survived by his father, Harold, Elgin; one sister, Mrs. Reuben (Edith) Schupbach, also of Elgin; a foster brother, Ross Robertson, Des Moines; four sons, Marvin, Carney, OK; Robert, West Palm Beach, FL; Kevin, Decorah and Kirk of Hawkeye; four daughters, Mrs. Justin (Beverly) Baker, Elgin, Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Hyde and Mrs. Sam (Betty) Miller, both of Hazleton, and Rebecca Bennett of Hawkeye; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; one brother, Donald, one sister, Vivian; and one grandson, Jason. Pallbearers were Charles Homewood, Robert Homewood, Clifford Homewood, Carlton House, Harley Torson, and LeRoy Kohlmeyer.
