Irvin A. Ameling, 78, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas. The Rev. Nick March was the Mass celebrant.

Organist Kathy Meyer and the St. Luke's Choir provided music for the service, including the songs "Be Not Afraid," "One Bread, One Body," "Prayer of St. Francis," and "On Eagle's Wings."

Emily, Nathan and Allison Dietzenbach were the Mass servers. The lector was Rita Kuehner. Barb Reicks was the Eucharistic minister, and Roger Ameling and Donna Fink were the Offertory giftbearers.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Jerry Mihm, Joey Ameling, Norman Wurzer, Alan Ameling, Dean Huinker, and Steve Ameling.

Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson handled the arrangements.

Irvin Alois Ameling was born Sept. 27, 1932, on the family farm near St. Lucas in Fayette County. He was the son of John and Mathilda (Kruse) Ameling.

Irvin attended St. Luke's Catholic School and helped on the family farm.

On May 5, 1954, he was wed to Alma Winter at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Together they farmed the family farm. Irvin also hauled milk in the cans, did custom farm work, and sold seed corn.

He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, going to tractor pulls and traveling. Over the years, Irvin enjoyed playing pool, cards and softball. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed all family activities.

He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas.

Preceding Irvin in death were his parents, John and Mathilda (Kruse) Ameling; four brothers, Joe (Bernice) Ameling, Richard (Addie) Ameling, Alfred (Elaine) Ameling, and Clarence Ameling; a sister, Viola Mihm; a sister-in-law, Ruby Winter; four brothers-in-law, Tony Wurzer, Robert Huinker, Vincent Bullerman, and Melvin Winter.

Irvin is survived by his wife, Alma Ameling of St. Lucas; four daughters, Donna (Bruce) Fink of West Union, Kathy (Duane "Smokey") Langreck of Hawkeye, Sandy (Steve) Krivachek and Betty (Jeff) Langreck, both of West Union; two sons, Roger (Amy) Ameling of West Union and Jeff Ameling of Hawkeye.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Sawyer Fink, Charity and Nicole Langreck, Kyle (Jaclyn) Krivachek, Kelsey Krivachek, Adam and Kelly Langreck, Dillon and Allison Ameling; and a great-grandson, Logan Blue.

Additional survivors include a brother, Felix (Collette) Ameling of West Union; three sisters, Marcella Wurzer of Lawler, Arlene Huinker of Calmar, and Bernice (Pat) Einck of Cedar Falls; two brothers-in-law, Cletus Mihm of West Union and Delbert Winter of Waucoma; four sisters-in-law, Ida Ameling of Fort Atkinson, Irma (Virgil) Thuente of Festina, Leona Bullerman of Calmar, and Mary Lou Winter of Lawler.
