Alfred J. Johnson was born in St. Lawrence county, N. Y.,
March 31, 1849, where he lived till seven years of of age
when his parents moved to Illinois to make their home.
Here he lived till 1867, when he came to Fairbank, Iowa
and settled. Since that time he has been a constant
resident of this state. For a number of years he was
engaged in business in the city of Oelwein and was widely
known.
Some months ago his health began to fail and continued
to decline till he was advised to go to the hospital at
Iowa City for an operation. The operation was seemingly
successful, but he contracted pneumonia and passed
away on Wednesday, March 21, at the age of 68 years.
Mr. Johnson was married twice. First to Miss Sarah Manning
on December 25, 1884, she having died February 10, 1887*.
On September 18, 1908 he was again married, this time to
Mrs. Ora Blaisdell, who still survives. He also leaves one
sister and one cousin. These are all the living relatives.
Funeral services from the First Christian Church, Friday,
March 23, at 2 pm. Services in charge of Rev. C. E.
Chambers, the pastor. Interment in the Otsego cemetery
southeast of the city.
