Bertha Marie Sabin 1873-1950

Bertha Marie Sabin was born July 31, 1873 in Pomerania,
Germany, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Berndt
and departed this life after a long illness early last Friday
morning at the age if 76 years, 11 months and 20 days.
On April 21, 1897 the deceased was married to Mr.
Herman Sabin. The Lord blessed this union with nine
children. A son and daughter preceded the mother in
death. It was in July 1906 which she came to America with
her family, spending the first 31 years on various farms in
Fayette county. In 1937, she, with her husband, retired
from farming and moved into their home in Westgate. Mrs.
Sabin was a faithful member of our congregation for many
years. In 1947 she was privileged to celebrate her golden
wedding with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Sabin of Westgate;
three sons, William of Westgate; Otto, Coos Bay, Oregon;
Alvin, Applington, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Erma Sahe,
Oelwein; Mrs. Ida Leech, Sumner; Mrs. Ella Hoth, Sumner; and
Mrs. Marie Kasemeyer of Sumner; 22 grandchildren and six
great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Otto C. Schultz on
Monday afternoon at St. Peter's Lutheran church, Westgate.
Burial was was in the Lutheran cemetery at Westgate.
