Funeral services for John C. Weidemann, 77, of West Union, Iowa, were held Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, with interment in the West Union Cemetery, West Union.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

John's death occurred on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.

John Carl Weidemann, son of Carl and Laura (Dreier) Weidemann, was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Sumner.

He attended school in Randalia and West Union.

John was married to Carolyn Miller for 20 years.

On Sept. 13, 1986, John entered into marriage with Elaine (Thein) Clemen at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. The couple resided in Manchester until 1994. They've made their home in West Union for the past 16 years.

John worked as a meat inspector for the Iowa Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1996.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, in which he previously held the position of president. John also served as a member of the Iowa National Guard from 1953 until 1956.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union.

John had been a resident of Good Samaritan Society-West Union for the past four years.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Richard; and a sister, Carol.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of West Union; two sons, Tom (Tracy) Weidemann of Schaumburg, Ill., and Tim (Muriel) Weidemann of Carson City, Nev.; a stepson, Kenneth (Rose) Clemen of Springville; a stepdaughter, Sherri (Jeffrey) Shields of West Union; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Willis (Kathryn) Weidemann and Paul (Deanna) Weidemann of West Union; three sisters, Karen (Dale) Dyke of Eldorado, Judy (Daryl) Appelman and Kathy (Fred) Mittan, both of West Union; nieces and nephews.
