Mrs. Lena Clara Barr, daughter of G. A. and Emma nee
Schmidt Oelwein, was born at the Oelwein homestead
on January 8, 1875 and passed away at the Oelwein
farm home Monday August 2nd about 1:00 pm aged
64 years, 6 months and 24 days.
In infancy she was baptised in the Lutheran Church. She
attended the public school in Oelwein where she
completed the course and partook of religious
instruction under Pastor F. Zimmermann in Waverly and
was confirmed there in the Lutheran Church. Later she
took a course in business training in the Oelwein
Business College and then completed a course in music
at Dixon, Ill. At Highland Park College she continued
her work and for many years she gave private lessons to
violin pupils in Oelwein.

On June 30, 1906 she was married to Galileo Barr. About
three years she lived near Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
while the rest of her life she lived at Oelwein. Two
children, Gustavus Adolphus and Viola Marcella Emma,
preceded their mother in death during their infancy. One
son, Milton and two daughters, Mrs. Rose Marie Wuenschel
of Chicago and Lillian with their father survive her. She
leaves also two sisters, Mrs. Mary Krauss and Miss Rose
Oelwein.

Mrs. Barr's heath began to fail somewhat over a year ago.
During the spring of this year complications affecting the
heart became evident and during the last two months she
was unable to be about. She was patient in her affliction
and content with the way God was leading her. A week
ago last Sunday she partook of holy communion with the
members of the family circle. On Monday afternoon,
August 2nd shortly after one o'clock she peacefully fell
asleep.

Last rites for Mrs. Lena Barr were held this afternoon
at one o'clock at the Oelwein farm home and at Zion
Lutheran Church at one thirty o'clock with interment
following at Oakdale cemetery, her pastor, Rev. F. H.
Voelker, conducting the services.
