Funeral services are set for
10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church for a
longtime Oelwein resident,
Eugene "Gene" Franklin
Johnson of 18 3rd St. N.W. The
Rev. Richard Kuhn will officiate.
Burial will be in
Woodlawn Cemetery.
Johnson died Tuesday afternoon
at Mercy Hospital of
Franciscan Sisters.
Johnson, 59, was a cabinet
maker and had lived in Oelwein
for 35 years. He was a member
of the Fourth Degree Knights of
Columbus, the American
Legion, and Sacred Heart
Catholic Church. He was also a
Navy veteran of World War II.
Friends may call at Brant-
Kerns Funeral Home in Oelwein
after 7 p.m. Wednesday. A
Catholic Daughters rosary will
be said at 3 p.m. Thursday, with
Knights of Columbus rosary at 7
p.m. and scripture service at 8
p. m on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife,
Wanita; one brother, Aaron
Johnson of Idleyld Park, Ore.;
two sisters, Mrs. Max (Bess)
Bearbower of Manistee, Mich.,
and Mrs. Harry (Letha) Damien
of Florida; one step-brother,
Harry Johnson of Minnesota;
and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and one sister,
Laura Belle Ferguson.
