William Durno Milne 1866-1938

The many old friends will be sorry to learn of the
death of Will Milne at his home in Marshalltown
Saturday, March 19. Mr. Milne was born on the farm
south of town now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Julius
Ehlers. He was a brother of the late Ed Milne and
Mrs. August Mittlestadt. The following obituary was
taken from the Marshalltown Times-Republican:

"William Durno Milne, a resident of this city for the
last thirty-eight years, died at his home, 1610
Summit Street at 8:30 am Saturday of tuberculosis.
He had been in poor health for the last three years
but was confined to his bed only the past three weeks.

W. D. Milne was born July 24, 1866 in Fayette County,
the son of George and Elsie Milne. On May 20, 1897
he married Miss E. Isbelle Taylor at Postville. In 1900
Mr. and Mrs. Milne moved to this city when the first
band was organized at the Iowa Soldiers Home when
Col. C. C. Horton was commandant. He played in that
band and operated the barber shop at the home of
years. He built the home where he died in, the next
years after he came here.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the
W. O. W. lodge of this city. Besides his widow he is
survived by two sons and one daughter. A daughter,
Margaret, died in infancy. The children are Kenneth
Milne of Pendelton, Indiana; Donald Milne of
Philadelphia and Mrs. A. D. Mortimer of Chicago, Ill.
Kenneth Milne and Mrs. Mortimer where here when he
died. He also survived by four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 pm Monday, March 21
at the Pursel funeral home in Marshalltown in charge
of Dr. Robert C. Mitchell. Burial was made in Riverside
Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa.
