Bernard Brannon

The Rev. Bernard I. Brannon, S.J., 78, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Regis Infirmary, Sacred Heart Jesuit Center in Los Gatos, Calif., after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m., at Holy Family Parish, San Jose, Calif.

Committal was Friday, Feb. 4, at 9 a.m., at the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.

A vigil service was held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at the Sacred Heart Jesuit Center.

Bernard was born at Waucoma Sept. 15, 1921, the son of James and Bridgit (Deeny) Brannon.

He attended St. Mary's School in Waucoma and graduated from Waucoma Public School in 1939.

His course of studies took him to Los Gatos, to Spokane, Wash., and to West Baden, Ind., where he was ordained to the priesthood June 17, 1953.

He taught Latin, English and religion at Loyola High School in Los Angeles, Calif., and Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, Calif., where he also was chaplain.

He was an associate pastor at parishes in Los Angeles and Phoenix, Ariz., and served Holy Family Parish in San Jose from 1972-78 and from 1989-95. He also was involved in Engaged Encounter Weekends.

Surviving are a sister, Agnes Pardee, and two brothers, Leonard and William, all of Waucoma, and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers, Cecil, Glen, Vincent, Leo, Martin and Father Raymond, S.J.
