Karlton L. "Karly" House, 83, of West Union, Iowa, died Wednesday night, July 21, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society-West Union.

Graveside inurnment services were held Tuesday, July 27, at the Hawkeye Cemetery in Hawkeye. The Rev. Judy Alford officiated. Military rites were conducted by Arnold-Rogers American Legion Post 312, Hawkeye.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Hawkeye, was in charge of arrangements.

Karlton Lincoln House was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Fayette County. He was the son of Guy Lester and Nora Elizabeth (Miller) House.

Karly worked as a cylinder press operator at The Fayette County Union before serving in the Korean War with the U.S. Army.

After the war, Karly and his brother Robert owned and trained thoroughbred horses. Later in his life, Karly was a part-owner of a tavern in Hawkeye.

He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Ronald, Guy "Olie," Averill "Paddie," George, Robert, Darrell, Donald, and Richard House; and three sisters, Lora House, Valeria Gerholdt, and Kathryn Berken.

Karly is survived by a sister, Marilyn Klatt of West Union, several nieces and nephews.
