Bernice Emma Ameling 1917 - 2010

A Mass of Christian Burial for Bernice E. Ameling, 93, of Waucoma, Iowa, was celebrated Monday, Aug. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Waucoma. The Rev. Nick March was the Mass celebrant.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Steve Ameling, Wynn Hartson, Phil Ott, Jeff Ameling, David Ott and Jim Eckenrod were the casket bearers.

Bernice died of age-related causes on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

Born July 21, 1917, on a farm near Sumner, Bernice Emma (Ehlert) Ameling was the daughter of William and Emma (Popenhagen) Ehlert.

On April 17, 1940, she married Joseph Ameling at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sumner. They became parents to three children.

The couple farmed for over 40 years on their farm near Waucoma.

Active in the community and her church, Bernice had served as a 4-H leader, taught Sunday school and was member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe, in 1991; and her sister, Pauline Eckenrod.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Carol) Ameling of Fredericksburg and Lauren (Mary Kay) Ameling of Waucoma; a daughter, Jolene (Dave) Ott of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
