INDEPENDENCE -Funeral services for Elmer H. Jensen will beheld 1:30 pm Saturday, Jan. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Independence, with the Rev. Bill Castic and the Rev. Charles Hewlett officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 pm today, Friday, and 8 am to 11 am Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Independence and from noon until time of services Saturday at the church.
Mr. Jensen, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a short illness.
He was born May 15, 1912, near Independence, the son of Harry and Mae (Gleerup) Jensen. He attended the Independence High School and in 1930, he founded Jensen Transport Inc. He married Nellie I. Olsen, April 28, 1934, at Decorah. She died April 13, 1998. On June 26, 1998, he married Juanita P. Heinze at Independence.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of Independence; two sons, Everett "Sonny" (Marilyn) Jensen and Jerry (Carol) Jensen both of Independence; five step-children, LeRoy (Donna) Saveraid of Lorimor; Norma (Manley) Orum of Waterloo, Juanita (Roger) Kottman of Harvard, Ill., Wayne Saveraid of Demon Texas, and Palmer (Karen) Saveraid of Waukegan, III.; seven grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Norma Arnold of Walker, Velma Boelter of Rowley, and Mildred Smith of Ames; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Jensen of Jesup.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nellie; a daughter Debra in infancy; a granddaughter, Judy Jensen; and two brothers, Donald and Everett.
