Oliver Westphal, Jr. 1938-1999

Oliver "Doc" Westphal, Jr., 60, of Oelwein, died March 31, 1999, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Bents officiating.

Burial was at the Floral Hills Memorial Garden, south of Oelwein. The Floral Hills Chapel Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Military graveside rites were conducted by Ross Reid Post No. 9 Oelwein American Legion, with the Alpha American Legion in presence.

Oliver was born April 10, 1938, in rural Hawkeye, the son of Oliver L. and Mildred (Cline) Westphal. He served with the United States Army during the Korea-Berlin crisis.

On Jan. 18, 1959, he married Ruby Warnke at Sumner. Oliver became the owner of W. W. Trucking in Oelwein. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Alpha American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; three sons, Quinn, Brian and Loren, all of Jesup; and three daughters, Sandra Prior of Holiday Lake, Cinthia Combs of Kansas City, Mo., and Lori Taylor of Coralville; 14 grandchildren; his parents, Oliver and Mildred Westphal of Hawkeye; one brother, Keith of Hawkeye; and two sisters, Judy Treloar of Waucoma and Peggy Eickhoff of Sumner.
