Leonard Casper Nolte 1921-2010

Leonard C. Nolte, 89, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at his home north of St. Lucas, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by the Rev. David Beckman on Friday, July 2, at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas.

Interment was in the church cemetery with Leonard's grandsons as casket bearers.

Arrangements were handled by Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Fort Atkinson.

Leonard Casper Nolte was born Jan. 6, 1921, on the family farm near St. Lucas to George and Magdalena (Loesch) Nolte.

He attended St. Luke's Catholic School.

On Sept. 14, 1943, Leonard was united in marriage with Rita Elsbernd at St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson.

The couple were third-generation farmers on the family farm north of St. Lucas.

Leonard was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association in Spillville, the Catholic Order of Foresters in St. Lucas, St. Luke's Rosary Society, and a lifetime member of St. Luke Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, George and Magdalena Nolte; his wife, Rita, on Nov. 28, 1995; three sisters, Elizabeth (Ed) Winter, Theresa (Ed) Bruening, and Gonie (Ralph) Knebel; five brothers, Frank (Theresa) Nolte, Bill (Louise) Nolte, Alois (Katherine "Katie") Nolte, Joe Nolte and George Nolte.

Surviving are his two sons, Roger Nolte and Leonard (Kristine) Nolte, both of Waucoma; three daughters, Jane (Stan) Kuhn of Ankeny, Annette (John) Kuennen of Ft. Atkinson, and Arlene (Duaine) Johnson of Canton, Minn.; 14 grandchildren: and 11 great-grandchildren.
