Cheryl (Pollock) Slifka, 43, of rural State Center, Iowa, formerly of Elgin, died Friday, May 28, 2010, at Israel Hospice House in Ames.

A memorial service to celebrate her life was held Thursday, June 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center with the Rev. Joan Swander officiating.

Private interment will be held at a later date.

Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel in State Center assisted with arrangements.

Born July 30, 1966, in West Union, Cheryl Sue Pollock was the youngest of seven children born to Gordon and Arlene (Schultz) Pollock.

She was a 1984 graduate of Valley High School in Elgin and graduated from Luther College. During college, she toured Europe with the Luther College Nordic Choir.

On Oct. 12, 1991, Cheryl was united in marriage with Darrell Slifka at Illyria Community Church near Elgin.

Cheryl was employed in Ames until having children. She was later employed as the secretary at West Marshall Elementary School.

An active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center, Cheryl was a part of the church's singing group "God Infusion."

Cheryl was preceded in death by her grandparents and oldest brother, Frosty.

She is survived by Darrell, her husband of 18 years; and three daughters, Celene, Sydney and Shay, all at home.

Additional survivors include her parents, Gordon and Arlene Pollock of Elgin; siblings Vali (Warren) Leeps of Decorah, Scott (the late Joan) Pollock of Volga, Tom (Lenee) Pollock of Parkersburg, Deon (Kurt) Amundson of Mt. Hope, Wis., and Beth (Joel) Harris of Pleasant Plains, Ill.; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for the continued support of Cheryl and Darrell's daughters.
