Isabelle C. Gay, 92, formerly of West Union, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at her home in Madrid, Ia.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid, of which she was a member.

Burial took place Friday at Colfax Cemetery in Colfax.

Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel, in Madrid assisted the family with arrangements.

Isabelle Clara (Hinsenbrock) Gay was born Jan. 23, 1918, in West Union to Herman John and Rose Mary (Berns) Hinsenbrock.

On March 6, 1943, she married John A. Gay in West Union, where they made their home before moving to Madrid in 1984.

Isabelle was formerly employed as a teacher at the high school in West Union for nearly 34 years, retiring in 1979.

Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Gay; four sisters; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Gay.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, John A. Gay Jr. of Monticello, Minn.; two daughters, Rose Marie (Tim) Connolly of Madrid and Mary Ann (Dick) Stringham of Homer Glen, Ill.; a sister, Helen Molumby of West Union; six grandchildren, Megan Connolly, Colleen Connolly, Theresa Walsh, Jennifer Bastien, Susan Stringham and Joseph Gay; and three great-grandchildren.

The family has respectfully requested that any memorials be made to St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Madrid.
