Lawson W. Obenchain 1861-1926

Lawson W. Obenchain was born at Fayetteville, Ark.
Jan. 3, 1861. When still a child the family moved to
Linn county, Ill. and shortly thereafter they moved
to Fayette county, Iowa. For 23 years Mr. Obenchain
made his home in Oelwein.
In the year 1889 he was married to Maggie McGuire,
who passed away in 1920. To this union six children
were born, all of whom except one daughter passed
away before the father. The daughter, Mrs. Gertrude
Steffen resides in Oelwein.
On Sept. 7, 1924 Mr. Obenchain was married to Mrs.
D. A. Ladd, who survives to mourn his departure.
Mr. Obenchain had been in apparent usual health until
less than a week ago. His illness however readily
affected his whole body and on Friday, Feb. 5, he
passed away to be with his Maker.
Besides the bereaved widow and only daughter, there
remain three brothers, O. S. of Westmount, Ill; J. C.
of Greenville, Pa; and Julius of Oelwein. His aged
mother, Mrs. Mary Cole of Oelwein also survived to
mourn his death.
The last services were held Sunday afternoon at the
Presbyterian church and interment made in Woodlawn
cemetery.
