Obituary -- F. M. Simpson

Frank Marion Simpson was born in Fayette county, Iowa on March 30, 1858 and departed this life at the Lathrop hospital at Norton, Kansas, July 2nd, 1928 at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 2 days.

He grew to manhood in that community and in the year of 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Elsie Miller of Oelwein. One child, Mrs. Alta Cannon of Oelwein, survive him.

On March 1886, Mr. Simpson moved to Kansas and homesteaded Northwest of Jennings where he lived many years, later moving to Jennings where he engaged in the livery business.

On April 10, 1893, he was united in marriage to Sarah Rundle Simpson of Oberlin, Kansas. Three sons were born to this union, Harry and Roy of Jennings, Kansas and Guy of Atwood, Kans. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and three sons, 2 stepsons, A. W. of Jennings and F. A. of Fairberry, Nebraska, his daughter, Mrs. Alta Cannon of Oelwein; 11 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Emma Roberts of Jennings, 2 brothers, O. D. of Norton, Kans. and Joseph of Fayette. One stepdaughter, Mrs. Edna Landan of Council Bluffs, preceeded him in death 2 years ago.

He was a loving husband and father and his death leaves a vacant place that never can be filled. Mr. Simpson was a good neighbor and citizen and was always ready to do what was right and for the best. He retired from active work about ten years ago.

He was taken to the Lathrop hospital a little over two weeks before his death, suffering with blood poison in one limb. It was thought for some time he was getting better and would soon be home until on Friday before his death he suddenly took a change for the worse and it was decided an amputation of the limb was the only chance. He revived after the operation and made a galant fight for life, but the Maker would not have it so and the spirit took its flight just three days after the operation.

His passing grieves the entire community. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church in Jennings on Tuesday, July 3rd conducted by Rev. Beiber and burial was in the home cemetery.
