Mrs. Mertie Ellis

Mrs. Mertie Bell Ellis, a daughter of Milton and Lucinda Adams DeWald, was born Oct. 5, 1880 in rural Buchanan county, Iowa. She died at Mercy hospital, Oelwein, Saturday evening, Oct. 1, a few days prior to her 86th birthday.

She had been a resident of Oelwein for 58 years and was a member of Grace Methodist church and it's Woman's Society of Christian Service, Royal Neighbors, Woman's Relief Corps, and the Navy Mothers.

Surviving are her husband, Charles,; one son, Harry of Charles City; two daughters, Mrs. Zella Clark of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Frank Bevan of Beloit, Wis. There are four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Maggie Hymer of Lamont; Mrs. Gertie Cummings of Oelwein; Mrs. L. W. Bennett of Oelwein and Mrs. Myra Ostrum of Algona. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sons. Memorial services were conducted at the Brant Funeral Home Oct. 5 by the Rev. E. Morris Egeland. Mrs. Mildred Smith was organist.

Casketbearers were Alden Ward, Fred Safronek, Louis Keding, Wilbur J. Morrison, August Miller and Archie Steggal.

Burial was in the Fairbank, Ia., cemetery.
