Funeral services for Donald E. Koester, 76, of West Union, Iowa, were held Tuesday, April 13, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado. The Rev. Dennis Hugdahl officiated.

Interment was in the church cemetery. Donald Sherman, Robert Metcalf, Dave Duffy, Roger Yauslin, Virgil Thorstenson, and Craig Spies were the casket bearers.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

Donald's unexpected death occurred on April 9, 2010, while he was trapping.

Donald Ernest Koester, son of Ernest and Charlotte (Gross) Koester, was born April 13, 1933, in West Union. He was baptized on May 7, 1933.

On Aug. 19, 1956, Donald was united in marriage with LaVerne Snitker at Salem United Church of Christ near Waukon. Four children were born to this union.

Donald farmed all of his life north of West Union.

He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harlan.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerne; four children, Connie (Jay) Haas of Calmar, Larry Koester of West Union, Cheryl Koester of Apple Valley, Minn., and Bradley Koester of Minneapolis, Minn.; his sister, Ruby (Bill) Miller of West Union; four grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
