The death of Mrs. Elford Preston occurred at
the family home in this city Sunday, November
6. Short services were held at the home
yesterday forenoon, conducted by Rev. Hanner
of Grace M. E. church, after which the remains
were taken to Sumner where services were held
in the Methodist church, Rev. W. W. Robinson,
her former pastor delivering the discourse.
Sarah A. Forker was born in Quasqueton,
Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, August 27, 1833
and was therefore 71 years, two months and ten
days of age. She was united in marriage in the
Nazareth M. E. church in Philadelphia, PA.
March 31, 1853 to Elford Preston, Rev. Elijah
Miller officiating. They had both united with
the Nazareth church the previous year and both
have remained steadfast in the faith.
To Mr. and Mrs. Preston were born five children,
Harry Clay, Wilton Miller, Cornelius, Eliza
and Elford C. All survive the mother except
Harry Clay who died July 13, 1856. She was
also survived by ten grandchildren there having
been but one death among her descendants. She
was a good Christian woman whose life was an
open book of inspiration to those with whom she
associated and many regret her death, but are
comforted with knowledge that she was ready and
willing to go, believing that it is better to
be with the Son of Man in whom she had believed.
The sympathy of many friends is extended to the
family in the loss they have sustained.
