Arlene Frances Kloster 1920 - 2010

Arlene F. Kloster, 90, of West Union, Iowa died of age-related causes on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. The Rev. David Grant and the Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson presided.

Barbara Temple was the organist, with Russell Guyer as soloist.

Burial was in the West Union Cemetery. Casket bearers were Duane Mork, Jerry Trudo, Kevin Veatch, Dale Mork, Ron Trudo, and Dennis Rear.

Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.

Arlene Frances (Mork) Kloster was born Jan. 20, 1920, in West Union. She was the daughter of John L. and Helen (Nelson) Mork.

Arlene attended Dover No. 6 rural school until eighth grade.

She then worked on the family farm until she married Leo Kloster on July 29, 1936, in West Union. Two children were born to this union.

Arlene lived in the West Union area her entire life. She and Leo owned and operated the Friendly Tavern for 25 years. Arlene was a cook at the local high school for several years, as well as at the West Union senior meal site for four years.

After her retirement, Arlene continued to live in her own home. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and entertaining.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leo; two brothers; and four sisters.

Arlene is survived by a son, Robert (Loree) Kloster of West Union; a daughter, Marilyn (Arthur) Larson of Sumner; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
