Adna G. Bell was born in Hancock County, Ohio, November 11, 1841 and died at his farm home near Oelwein May 14, 1917, aged seventy-five years, six months and three days. He came with his parents to Linn County, Iowa in 1850, and to Fayette County in 1856. In 1870 he located on the farm home, about two miles northeast of Oelwein where he continued to reside up to the time of his passing.
June 20, 1872, he was united in marriage with Miss Nettie Miller. To this union were born three children, two of whom, Mrs. B. L. Belt and Mrs. W. H. Brownell, both of Oelwein, and the wife and mother survive him. There is also a sister, Mrs. Anderson, of Hopewell, Iowa.
Mr. Bell had acquired a competency and possessed one of the best farms in Jefferson township consisting of over four hundred acres. He was a pioneer citizen well and favorably known throughout this section where he located before the city of Oelwein was located. Up to the last illness he was a familiar figure on the streets. He was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. Some weeks before the passing he suffered an attack of paralysis and he had gradually become weaker til the last summons came Monday.
The last services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Dr. Donald Grant, of the Presbyterian Church. There was a large concourse of friends and neighbors present, attesting in some degree the esteem in which he was held. Interment was in the Otsego Cemetery. A pioneer citizen of the county, a man who had been a respected resident for over three score years was laid to rest.
