Funeral services for Elma M. Hofmeyer, 88, of Fayette, Iowa, were held Monday, Feb. 22, at First United Methodist Church of Fayette. The Rev. Jason Princer was the officiant. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery in Fayette.

Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Fayette was in charge of arrangements.

Following a lengthy illness, Elma's death occurred on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.

Elma M. Hofmeyer, daughter of John B. Muller Jr. and Louise (Gerber) Muller, was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Forest, Ill.

She graduated from Central High School in Washington, D.C., and later attended two years of college.

During World War II Elma worked for the FmHA and later the Iowa State Geological Survey.

On Sept. 11, 1948, she was united in marriage with John W.D. Hofmeyer at the Methodist Church in Des Moines.

A resident of Fayette since March 1954, Elma worked for Hofmeyer & Anthony Law Firm in Fayette.

She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Fayette, where she had been active with the UMW, the church choir, and taught Sunday school.

Elma was also active in P.E.O. and Palmer Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary, served as a den mother with the Cub Scouts, and helped with Easter Seals.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, J. William and Arden; and a sister, Gladys.

In addition to her husband, John, of Fayette, Elma is survived by two sons, John W. (Janet) Hofmeyer III of Oelwein and Richard Hofmeyer of Fayette; and four grandchildren.
