Funeral services for Verla J. O'Shaughnessy, 57, of West Union, Iowa, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union. Officiating were the Rev. David Grant and the Rev. Stacey Nalean-Carlson.

Organist Barbara Temple and soloist Mary Davis provided the music.

Interment was in the West Union Cemetery. Casket bearers were Les Thompson, Mike Ruroden, Paul Streif, Ron Franzen, Steve Crider and Duane Franzen. Honorary bearers were Steve Krivachek, Rob Szemkus and Dave Schroeder.

Arrangements were handled by Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.

Verla's death occurred Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at her home.

Verla Jean (Olson) O'Shaughnessy, daughter of Charles and Edith (Weiland) Olson, was born Feb. 17, 1952, in Laurens.

She was a 1970 graduate of North High School in West Union.

In May 1972, Verla married Pat O'Shaughnessy. They later divorced.

Her places of employment include H & H Distributing Company in West Union for 28 years and AgriProcessors, Inc. in Postville for 10 years. At the time of her death, Verla was employed with Afina Corporation in Waterloo.

She enjoyed boating on the river, cookouts on the sandbar, water skiing, camping, being outdoors and, going to NASCAR races. She especially enjoyed being with her nieces and nephews.

Verla was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Charles and Edith Olson of West Union; two brothers, Larry (Brenda) Olson and Greg (Cheryl) Olson, both of Eldorado; her sister, Joan (Ron) Schroeder of Auburn; nieces and nephews Jeremy Olson, Dan and Dean Olson, Carie Kuennen, Amy Jacobson, Amber Fleshner, Kirstie Schroeder, Corey Schroeder, several other relatives and many friends.
