Violet D. Marquette, 79, of West Union, Iowa, died Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at her home following a long illness.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union.

A private family inurnment will take place at a later date.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Violet D. (Stensland) Marquette was born May 25, 1930, in Auburn Township to Andrew and Lyla (Dueland) Stensland.

She graduated from West Union High School with the class of 1948.

On Oct. 17, 1954, Violet was united in marriage with Leo Wayne Marquette at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, West Union. Five children were born to this union.

Violet worked for the telephone company in West Union for a brief time. The majority of her married life, she worked alongside Wayne on the farm until moving to town in 2005.

Violet was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union at the time of her death.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Andrew and Lyla Stensland; and a sister, Athelma Two.

Survivors include Violet's husband, Wayne Marquette of West Union; five children, Robin Marquette of West Union, Julie Everett of Decorah, Jill (Jim) Lynch of Iowa City, Todd (Cindy) Marquette of St. Louis, Mo., Wade "Scott" Marquette of Clermont; two brothers, Lennie Stensland of West Union and Floyd (Arleta) Stensland of Eldorado; and eight grandchildren, Karen McGill, Connie Everett, Kathy Everett, Andie Lynch, Claire Lynch, Tyler Marquette, Ryan Marquette and Mel Marquette.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bremwood Children's Home in Waverly.
