Richard Albert Gehring 1908-1990

Richard Albert Gehring was born April 11, 1908, at Elgin, to Albert and Nancy (Kimpston) Gehring. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from the Elgin High School. He later moved to Cedar Rapids, where he did factory work. In 1942, Richard entered the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1945, after which he took employment with the United States Postal Service.

On September 17, 1953, Richard was united in marriage to Mabel Schneider in Chicago, IL. One son was born to this union. Together they have lived in a number of locations over the years. The last 20 years has been spent in St. Paul, MN, until moving to Postville, a few months ago.

After a long illness Richard died Friday, July 13, 1990, at the Good Samaritan Home, Postville, at the age of 82.

Richard was a member of the North St. Paul's Baptist Church, V.F.W. and American Legion. He will be remembered as one who enjoyed reading and all types of sports.

He is survived by his wife, Mabel; a son, Thomas (Bonnie) Gehring of Eagan, MN. He is preceded in death by a sister, Arletta Howard and his parents.

Funeral services was held Monday, July 16, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Elgin. Rev. Jon Cooke officiated. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery. Casketbearers were Robert Schroeder, Jack Gehring, Roger Frieden, Albert Lee Dennler, Gary Larson, Eugene Lehman.

Arrangements were by Muehlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin.
