Funeral services for Russell Dean Friederich, 56, of Elgin, were held October 16 at the Elgin Lutheran Church. Rev. Harold McMillin officiated. Burial was in the Elgin Cemetery. Muehlethaler Funeral Home, Elgin, took care of arrangements.

Russell Friederich, son of Ernest and Florence Baumgartner Friederich, was born September 22, 1934. He died at the LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital October 13, 1990.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Elgin Lutheran Church in 1954.
He belonged to the Elgin Lions Club, and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 during the Korean conflict. He worked for McMillan's 8 years (1958-1966); Elgin Co-Op (1966-1971) and started Friederich Ins. in 1971. He worked as manager of Farmers Mutual for the past 18 years.

On March 31, 1955 he married Ruth M. Rainey at the Elgin Lutheran Church. The couple had 4 children.

Survivors include one son, Steven A. Friederich of Elgin; 3 daughters, Connie (Mrs. Edward Popelar) of Cedar Rapids, Bonnie Friederich of Elgin and Karen Friederich of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Cassie and Stephanie Friederich; 2 brothers, Harold Friederich, Cedar Rapids and Leo Friederich of Elgin; 3 sisters, Ernestine Butikofer of Lakeland, FL, Joan Lembke of Elgin and Anna Caspers of Lisbon, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers were Roger Michael, Harry Chine, Roy Engelhardt, Robert Hanson, Otis Torkelson and Donald Sutter.
