Funeral services for Bernice Falb were held Tuesday, March 1, 11 a.m. in St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin. Rev. Richard Kretzschmar officiated.

Bernice Martha Phillips Falb was born in Postville, Iowa July 23, 1903. Her parents were A. J. Phillips and Amanda Meier Phillips. She graduated from the Postville High School in 1920 and in 1921 received her normal training certificate. She taught rural school one year and then became a secretary at Hall Roberts' Son.

She married Walter G. Falb at her parents' home in Postville on April 22, 1927. They made their home in Elgin where they raised their 3 children. Her husband died July 7, 1969.

As an Elgin resident she was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of the Elgin Study Club, member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, one of the founders of the Valley Senior Citizens, secretary of the Elgin Homes, Inc., and registration chairman for the Elgin homecomings.

She lived the past 2 years as a resident of the Good Samaritan home in West Union where she died February 26, 1988.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, 3 sisters, one brother, and 2 grandsons.

She is survived by her daughter Jane (Jack) Whipple of Clinton; daughter Marilyn Larson of Greene, IA; and son Kent (Maxine) Falb of Lake Orion, MI; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Casketbearers were Mark Whipple, Rick Benhart, Dennis Majewski, Dave Gravert, Steve Stuntz and Larry Falb.
