Charles D. "Chuck" Howard, 57, of Clermont died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at St. Mary Hospital, Rochester, Minn., following a brief illness.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 12, at West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont. The Rev. Dwight Albers officiated. Inurnment was held in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont handled the arrangements.

Charles David "Chuck" Howard was born Jan. 19, 1952, in Iowa City to Harvey and Edith (Worchel) Howard.

On June 23, 1998, Chuck was united in marriage with Phyllis Nims at their home in Clermont.

Chuck worked for Howard Bros. in Luana for many years. He was a truck driver until 2006 and then worked for Baker Concrete until Oct. 30, 2009.

He enjoyed building, welding and working in the yard. He loved spending time and visiting with his friends and family.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, LeRoy Howard; and a nephew, Mark Howard.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Howard; six children, Lisa (Ronald) Seitz of West Union, Lorry (Terry) Kohls of Clermont, David (Amy) Howard of Waukon, Melissa (Mark) Meehan of Minneapolis, Minn., Michael Howard and Tammy Howard, both of Fredericksburg; 11 grandchildren, including Matthew (Kim) Seitz, Mitchell Seitz, Grant Seitz, Garrett Seitz, Taylor Kohls, Olivia Kohls and five other grandchildren.

Additional survivors include five brothers and sisters, Eunice Howard of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., LaVerne (Diane) Howard of Bella Vista, Ark., Dale (Pam) Howard of Great Falls, Mont., James (Betty) Howard of Waukon, Gerald (Cheryl) Howard of Monona, Deb (James) Yohe, of Caledonia, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Betty Howard, Monona.
