Harriet Serene Olson, 92, Clermont, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Home in West Union, Iowa, following a brief illness. Harriet was born on a farm in Dover Township in Fayette County on February 11, 1917, to David and Olive Hand. She attended Windsor Township School and graduated from West Union High School. She took normal training and taught country school for a time.

Harriet was united in marriage to Clarion Olson on Thanksgiving Day in 1937. Harriet and Clarion were both employed at the Rath Packing Company in Waterloo. In 1945, they moved to the Clermont, Iowa, area to a farm on the Great River Road and in 1963 they built their home in Clermont, Iowa. After farming, she worked at Kjosa's restaurant and then at several egg packing plants in the area. Harriet enjoyed gardening, quilting, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one sister, Miriam Cade, Urbandale, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Belva Lantz, Ohio and her nieces and nephews.

Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarion Olson in 1997 and two sisters, Wanda and Doris.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elgin, Iowa. The Rev. Rick Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in the God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa.

Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Clermont, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
