Viola L. Bierman, 98, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of Waverly, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society - West Union.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 9, at Grace Baptist Church in Waverly with the Rev. Jon Hennings officiating. Burial was in Harlington Cemetery.

Viola Louise (Buhr) Bierman was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Dayton Township, Bremer County. She was the daughter of August J. and Mary (Lamprecht) Buhr.

She was baptized Nov. 5, 1911, and was confirmed March 28, 1926, at St. John's Lutheran Church - Buck Creek.

Viola attended Buck Creek Parochial School through the eighth grade.

On Oct. 13, 1936, she was united in marriage with Charlie Bierman at Trinity American Lutheran Church in Waterloo. The couple lived and farmed around the Sumner area for many years. In 1960, they moved to Waverly.

Charlie died on Nov. 16, 1995, and Viola continued to live in Waverly until moving to the Good Samaritan Center in West Union in 1998.

Viola was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Waverly, where she was involved with Women's Fellowship.

In addition to her husband, Charlie, Viola was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Verla Ganske; five sisters, Hilda Meyer, Ella Buhr, Elsie Buhr, Margaret Boldt, Erma Buchholz; six brothers, Reinhardt Buhr, Clarence Buhr, Leslie Buhr, Edwin Buhr, Walter Buhr, Albert Buhr.

She is survived by two daughters; Janice (Don) Durscher of Elgin and Janet Borcherding of Naples, Fla., a son; Arlin (Connie) Bierman of Cedar Falls; 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
