Funeral services were held Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. for Laura Kilcher, West Union, in the Zion Lutheran Church with burial in the West Union Cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Laura Kilcher, daughter of Gottfried and Mary (Meisgeier) Martin, was born August 27, 1898 in Hawkeye. She became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism in September of 1898 and was confirmed at the Little Brick Church in Windsor Township.

On completion of her primary school years, Laura continued her education at Waverly High School, Waverly and Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.

Kilcher taught several years before her marriage to Arnold (Pete) Kilcher. Arnold and Laura were united in marriage on December 28, 1927 at her parents' home west of West Union. To this union were born three children, Stanley, LaFonda, and Sharon. The couple farmed between West Union and Hawkeye until 1949 when they moved to West Union. Laura worked many years at Palmer Hospital as an aid.

She belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary, the Retired Teachers' Association, and the MDS Club. She was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church where she remained active until her death on Sunday, March 29, 1992.

Laura Kilcher was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, one daughter LaFonda Wehling, one brother Paul Martin, and one sister Eleanor Martin.

She is survived by one son, Stanley, St. Charles, MO; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Sharon) Mallie, Tripoli; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren: and two sisters, Florentine Johnson of Cokato, NM, and Emma Strong, Wadena.
