Funeral services for Elaine Thompson, 85, of West Union, Iowa, were held at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2009. Pastor Stacey Nalean-Carlson officiated. Burial was in the West Union Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union.

Elaine died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Home, West Union, of age-related causes.

Elaine Arnola (Peterson) Thompson was born July 28, 1924, at Forest City to Alfred and Emma (Pederson) Peterson.

She graduated from Leland High School in 1942.

On Jan. 28, 1944, Elaine married John Thompson in Arkansas, while he was in the service. They moved to West Union in 1962.

Elaine worked for Prairie View Residential Care Facility as a nurse's aide and activity director for 36 years, retiring in 2004.

She entered Traditions Assisted Living in 2007. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Home in West Union in August of 2009.

Preceding Elaine in death were her parents; her husband, John in 1987; and a brother, Duane.

Survivors include two daughters, Karol (Alan) Kleppe of Hawkeye, and Janice (Ken) Senner of West Union; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd (Rita Mae) Lewis of Forest City; a sister, Cleone Riesetter of Forest City; nieces and nephews.
