Bruce Oliver Moser, 81, West Union, Iowa, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union, Iowa, following a brief illness. Bruce was born June 13, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to M. A. and Leonora (Stone) Moser. He graduated from Waucoma High School and Iowa State University in 1949.
Bruce was united in marriage to Ruth Bisson of Columbus, Nebraska on August 6, 1949, in Ames, Iowa. Together they raised their three children. Bruce was a lifelong farmer and managed the Monsanto plant in Sumner. He taught Veteran's on the Farm Program for several years. Bruce and Ruth worked together in Moser Real Estate & Farm Management and Get-Away Travel in Sumner and West Union. He and Ruth celebrated being 60 years alumnus from Iowa State and also celebrated being married 60 years on August 6th of this year.
As a young boy, Bruce rode his pony to Eden country school and loved playing basketball as a high school student. He and Ruth enjoyed dancing throughout their married life and spending time on the Mississippi River with their children. Bruce vacationed in Door County, Wisconsin for 20 years with family. Golfing, snow and water skiing and playing cards were Bruce's favorite pastimes. Bruce's dogs were cherished companions. His favorite trips were cruising the Hawaiian Islands and enjoying Lake Tahoe.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Moser; three children: Rhonda (Neal) Sheeley of Decorah, Mark (Debbie) Moser of West Union, Rick (Kathryn) Moser of Independence; seven grandchildren: Anna Sheeley, Erin (Wes) Anderson, Ben Moser, Tom Moser, Hanna Moser, Matt Moser, Mike Moser; one sister: Jann Bowlus of Decorah; two nieces: Audra (Jim Dobravec) Bowlus of London, Ontario, Dawn (Jim Edelen) Bowlus of Iowa City; great-nieces and nephew, Toby, Sydney and Alice.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the Country Hills Dining Room, West Union, Iowa. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
