Joan M. Hoopes, 80, of West Union, Iowa, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment at West Union Cemetery.
Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Joan Marie (Chamberlin) Hoopes, daughter of Gail and Blanche (Webster) Chamberlin, was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Muscatine.
She was a graduate of Muscatine High School.
On Sept. 10, 1947, Joan was united in marriage with Joseph Hoopes in Muscatine. Two children were born to this union.
After Joe graduated from Iowa State College, he and Joan lived in Monroe, where Joe taught vocational ag for seven years. He then became a Kent Feed district sales manager for a fourcounty area, and the couple moved to West Union, which was in the middle of his territory. Joe retired in 1988.
Joan enjoyed golfing, traveling, being a member of P.E.O., and her West Union friends.
After Joe's death in July 1992, Joan became a resident of Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Linn (Ruth) Hoopes of Pella; her daughter, Linda (Don) Raeford of Des Moines; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a nephew, Craig (Marg) Feiler and their daughter of Eau Claire, Wis.
