Bruce Suckow, 52, of Maynard, Iowa, died Thursday evening, Sept. 24, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Maynard, with the Rev. Ian Wolfe officiating. Interment was in Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Bruce Suckow was born Oct. 17, 1956, in Long Beach, Calif., to Robert E. and LuDean (Postel) Suckow.

He graduated from West Central High School, Maynard, in 1975.

On Nov. 1, 1980, Bruce was united in marriage to Glenda Sue Poock at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Westgate.

He was involved with concrete construction his entire adult life, most recently with Suckow Construction in Oelwein.

Bruce was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and had been the mayor of Maynard for the past six years.

He had previously been active in the Maynard Little League program, and as the president of the Northeast Iowa Little League Association, Bruce was the driving force in upgrading the Maynard City Park and ball diamonds.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Helmuth and Esther Suckow, and his maternal grandparents, Homer and Afton Postel.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Glenda Suckow of Maynard; two daughters, Laine Suckow, a junior at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, and Rachel Suckow, a freshman at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

Additional survivors include his parents, Bob and LuDean Suckow of Maynard; three brothers, Brian (Chris) Suckow and Rick (Lori) Suckow, both of Oelwein, and Doug (Karla) Suckow of Fredericksburg; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund in Bruce Suckow's name has been established for Heart of Iowa Hospice in West Union.
