Eugene A. Erickson, 74, of Elgin, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at his home following a sudden illness.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elgin. The Rev. Jerome Godson officiated.

Inurnment followed at Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elgin.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Andrew Erickson was born Sept. 30, 1934, in rural Clayton County to Charles and Doris (Hader) Erickson.

He attended Highland Country School through eighth grade; he completed ninth grade at Elkader High School.

Eugene farmed for many years and loved the outdoors. In 1984, he and his mother moved to Elgin, where he resided until his death.

He will be deeply missed by his many family and friends.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Doris Erickson; a sister, Norma Palas; a brother, Leslie Erickson; a brother-in-law, Pat Armstrong; a niece, Kimberly Osborne; and a nephew-in-law, Alan McClure.

Survivors include his brothers and sisters, Patricia (Silas) Butikofer of Clermont, Sheila (Fred) Knoke of Elkader, Dennis (Ann) Erickson of Dewey, Ariz., Gerald (Carol) Erickson of Cedar Rapids, Charles Erickson of Rockford, Ill., Pamela Armstrong of Denver, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Clifford Palas of Elkader; a sister-in-law, Linda Severson of Rockford, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.
