Lila Mae Streeter 1933 - 2009

Lila Mae Streeter, 76, of Fayette, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at her home after a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 19, at First United Methodist Church, Fayette, with the Rev. Jason Princer officiating.

Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Fayette, with Josh Bushkofsky, Ryan DeHaan, George Capell, Bill Pierce, Dave VanGenderen, Braulic Caballero, Les Cushion, and Bill Prochaska as casket bearers.

Arrangements were handled by Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Fayette.

Lila Mae (Kohlmeyer) Streeter was born July 21, 1933, at the family home near Sumner and Hawkeye. She was the daughter of George and Evelyn (Messerer) Kohlmeyer.

She graduated from Randalia High School in 1951.

On Jan. 27, 1952, Lila Mae married Delbert "Dick" Streeter in a double-ring ceremony at First United Methodist Church in Fayette.

While Dick was serving 18 months in the Korean War, Lila Mae worked at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. Upon Dick's return from the service, they farmed in the rural Fayette area until 1976.

Lila Mae began working at Upper Iowa University in 1962; she retired in 1995. Her roles at the university included secretary for the president of the university and supervisor of Payroll and Student Employment.

An active member of First United Methodist Church in Fayette for over 50 years, Lila Mae served as church auditor for 25 years and participated in numerous other committees.

She had been a member of local P.E.O. Chapter FG since 1982. She served as president from 1990 to 1992, along with numerous other offices.

Lila Mae was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick Streeter; her brother, Marvin Kohlmeyer; and a sister, Kathleen Kubik.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Anne (Rod) VanGenderen of West Des Moines and Becky (Jim) Duck of Grenada, Miss.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Fayette, Heart of Iowa Hospice, or to Upper Iowa University.
