Jean Rosalee Larson
Jean Rosalee (Amundson) Larson, 67, Elgin, Iowa, died Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at her home following a brief illness. Jean was born January 26, 1942, Decorah, Iowa, to Harry and Myrtle Amundson. She graduated from Valley High School, Elgin, Iowa, in 1960.
Jean was united in marriage to Richard Neumann in 1961. Two sons were born to this union. After relocating to California, Jean later married Robert Larson on September 6, 1981, and moved back to Iowa.
Jean was an avid collector of many things such as: books, coffee mugs, beenie babies, and most importantly mice of all shapes and sizes. She also enjoyed garage sales with friends. Jean's greatest joy in life was her family and baking sweets and treats for them. For this reason, she was known by those who loved her as, "Grandma Cookie."
One of Jean's proudest moments was traveling to Boston, MA, in 2001 to accept her certificate of achievement for living courageously with diabetes for a half a century. She was also a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church for many years. Jean will be missed deeply by all who knew her.
Jean is survived by her son, David (Deb) Neumann, Fayette; two brothers, Paul (Cathy) Amundson, Canton, Ohio and Harold (Alice) Amundson, Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Tina (Art) Rios, West Union, Charlie (Robin) Eaton, New York, Jamie (Ryan) Hoey, West Union, Amanda Neumann, Fayette; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Larson, her parents and a son, Dean, who died in infancy.
Memorial Services will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa. The Rev. Dwight Albers will officiate.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, from 3:00 - 7:30 p.m. at the Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa.
