Frank Nims

Frank Nims, 92, Clermont, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at his home following a sudden illness. Frank was born on September 3, 1916, Eden, Iowa, to Frank and Mabel (Brown) Nims, Sr.

Frank grew up on farms near Hawkeye, Donnan and Clermont, and attended country schools in Fayette County, starting his very first day on his fifth birthday. When only six or seven years old, he saved the life of his younger brother, Glen, who was choking on a gumdrop. When his family lived on the "Pitts Place" he attended Clermont High School through the eighth grade, but then quit to help on the family farm. He also worked for the Carlin brothers on their farms and later he bought the Cavanaugh farm.

As a young man Frank enjoyed roller-skating in Decorah where we met Olga Fretheim. Frank was united in marriage to Olga in Decorah, Iowa, on October 29, 1941. Five children were born to this union. Frank and Olga farmed together for many years until they moved to Clermont. Frank then started working at the John Deere Implement in Clermont until Olga passed away.

Frank enjoyed farm sales, fishing and putzing around with his old John Deere Tractors. His greatest joy in life was farming and his family. Frank will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include four children, LaVerne Nims, Clermont, Robert (Luann) Nims, Clermont, Gary (Melody) Nims, Drake, CO, Jeanette (Joe) Moschel, Hawkeye; one sister, Veryle Anderson, Eldorado; ten grandchildren, Christopher (Dee) Nims, Mitchell (fiance, Lindsey Ash) Nims, Cory (Traci) Nims, Stacy (Gabe) Lindsey, Chrystal (Dave) Wilkie, Luke (Amanda) Nims, Aleisha (Dan) Woods, Kyle Moschel, Allison Moschel and twelve great-grandchildren.
